Kindness Counts and CHARACTER COUNTS! In Iowa are projects of the Institute for Character Development at Drake University.
Founded by former Governor Robert D. Ray in 1997, the Institute is a non-profit organization housed at
Drake University in Des Moines, IA.
Our mission is to recognize, enhance and sustain the positive qualities of Iowans in order to promote civility through character development and our vision is that every Iowan embrace and practice good character by demonstrating
trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
We're proud to facilitate two projects that provide resources to Iowa
communities,
families,
schools,
sports organizations,
workplaces, and
youth:
CHARACTER COUNTS! In Iowa
Through a statewide partnership with the CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition and the
Josephson Institute of Ethics, we work on a variety of CHARACTER COUNTS! initiatives throughout the state of Iowa. CHARACTER COUNTS! is based on the Six Pillars of Character.
Iowa's Smart & Good Schools
We've recently joined forces with the
Institute for Excellence & Ethics (IEE). Through this new partnership, we will serve as the first regional center in the nation to collaborate with IEE on research, program development and dissemination of the
Power2Learn and Power2Teach programming for Iowa schools, businesses and communities. The Power2 projects are based on the
Smart & Good Schools research report.
